My wife and I came in for breakfast during Memorial Day weekend and the place was packed. We were able to find a seat though without too much trouble. Everybody working there was very friendly and the food was delicious. Overall, a great place to get some breakfast!

Last meal before we hit the trail. Great diner food. It is what it is. You get what you think. Great hand cut fries. Solid burger. BLT with a fried egg & guacamole.

Best breakfast place in BV! You couldn't ask for more from a dinner! They have many creative options, including Smoked Salmon Benedict...great place

We've only eaten here once, but based on that experience, we'll be back! We stopped in for breakfast and were promptly greeted and seated. All of the employees that we had contact with were exceptionally friendly and provided great service. Our food was hot and tasty and the servings were adequate without being over the top huge--as many restaurants tend to do. The ambiance is small-town Colorado eclectic and very comfortable. The bottom line--we had a very good experience and would recommend it!

My girl and I took a trip to BV and tried the Evergreen Cafe for breakfast. Service was quick and welcoming. However, nothing special about the flavors. We had the French toast and blueberry pancake with eggs and sausage. Sausage tasted store bought frozen and the eggs were very bland. The toast and pancake were slightly undercooked and the blueberry pancake tasted particularly bitter. On top of all that, we are now both feeling queasy having taken numerous bathroom breaks since breakfast. Will definitely be coming back to BV but not to this establishment.

Delicious! The no split checks thing was a bit weird, but the food was delicious and the service was good. I got some dish with vegetarian green chili...yum.

Overall, I'm glad we stopped in. Decent food for decent prices, and I'd give it another half star if I could. We go through Buena Vista enough that we're happy to patronize the local businesses. Monday at lunch was our first time to Evergreen after having done the Eddyline, Biggies, and K's thing a few times. Lots of small outdoor tables lined up on the patio facing US-24. Inside, immediately to the right is a bar with retro stools, and to the left are colorfully-painted dining tables with an eclectic mix of chairs. It wasn't clear if we were supposed to seat ourselves, so we stood around awkardly in the tight entrance for a few minutes before a server acknowledged us and told us to pick a table. We chose one of two tables in the room surrounded by windows since all the other tables were occupied, but it was very warm in there even with a window open. Our server was efficient and friendly, and our drinks were never left unfilled. Food came out quick: I had the Colorado Burger with a substitution of onion rings ($1 extra). They never asked how I wanted my burger, and it arrived well-done; additionally, the edges were too perfect and the flavor too bland, which leads me to assume it was a frozen patty. The poblano strips and Swiss cheese were fine, though I was surprised the poblanos didn't add much flavor. The dish came with a side of green leaf lettuce, decent tomatoes, and several slices of pickles. Overall, the entire burger needed some extra ZING or something, maybe herbs/spices- we've made better ones at home. The onion rings, on the other hand, were fantastic - large with crispy breading; they were worth the extra buck!! My BF ordered the Princeton Chicken sandwich with fries. This was far more flavorful than my bland burger; the chicken was tenderized, the feta soft, the roasted red peppers adding a nice sweetness, and the sourdough buttered and grilled. We also liked the handcut fries. Parking was easy at lunch on a summer weekday (it's black-top, for you motorcyclists), but it is a small lot so if full, I think you can park down the side street adjacent to the property. There are two bathrooms (1 male, 1 female), and it's exactly what you'd expect in a place like this: very basic but passable with paper towels, no hand dryer. Most of the other diners appeared at least 50yrs+, and Evergreen doesn't possess the buzz of Biggies or the clean, hip brewpub atmosphere of Eddyline. However, it felt comfortable, we felt satisfied, and we'll probably be back to try the other goodies. I recommend this place if you're looking for casual sit-down eats right off the highway!

It kinda sucks, but Yelp and similar websites have taken away some of the fun of dining on the road: You can screen everything beforehand and never experience the pleasant surprise of stumbling upon a gem. But we got that sensation with the Evergreen Cafe, because we chose it Yelp-free. We were on the way from Denver to Durango and popped into this little roadside restaurant for lunch, based almost entirely on its homey, yet colorful, diner appearance. A lucky, excellent choice. The Evergreen Cafe seems like an almost prototypical super-casual-and-laid-back sorta-hippie Colorado mountain-town enterprise. (OK, maybe not "sorta": the radio was tuned to a Grateful Dead XM show the first time we were there.) The front area features a wonderfully preserved old-school diner counter, and the back area is painted in an appealing blue, yellow, and green scheme and is very comfortable. That was all appealing enough, but the food was what won us over. We went twice, on successive weekends (we stayed in Buena Vista overnight on the return trip to DIA), and, between the two of us, we had four different sandwiches that were all quite good: a tuna melt, the Mt. Elbert (a chicken sandwich with bacon, guacamole, and American cheese), a turkey reuben, and the Arkansas (turkey, bacon, tomato, guacamole, chipotle mayo, & cheddar jack on a very nice grilled flatbread). Sides were really nice, too: a simple but fresh side salad, a "sweet cabbage salad" (thankfully, more umami than sweet), and handcut fries. Service was very casual, but friendly. Prices are well within the range of reasonableness. 4.25 stars. P.S. The Evergreen Cafe is for sale. I would hate to see someone else take it over and change much about it. P.P.S. As for that English gal who was put off by the purportedly unfashionable locals, she should have realized that small-town Colorado mountain folks weren't going to be too keen on her Celine Dion t-shirt. I didn't get any strange looks with the shirt I got at TJ Maxx.

A delicious little cafe right off of the highway. Parking is a bit tricky so just be careful. They are very dog friendly out on the patio and will bring your companion fresh water and a treat. My daughter ordered the blueberry pancakes right before breakfast ended and she enjoyed them. The four of us ordered lunch and it was very good. Three of us had the chicken fried steak and even though it was a little different they still enjoyed it (being from Texas it is tricky to find good southern food outside of the state but the chef nailed it!!). I had the gluten free hamburger and it was very good. The sweet potato salad is different but very good as well. We weren't sure who our waitress was since there was three ladies serving the patio but everyone was very nice and took great care of us. They do have gluten free breads which is a plus. They do close after lunch so be sure to stop in before hand. A must try!!

I was roadtrippin' with two of my favorite allies--my husband and my brother--when we decided to stop at this place. They both devoured their breakfast, but I cannot remember what they had. We were here in late June of this year. I am craving what I had then though right now... Sweet potatoes, chorizo (request to have it added), black beans, cilantro, salsa, and tortillas on the sides... just a few of my favorites things mashed together. The coffee was strong and the service was great! The place itself seems like an old-fashioned diner and is a little small on the inside, but the food was fresh and affordable. I hope to visit there again sooner than later. Review #9

Overall, meh. We stopped in here on a drive home from Aspen and I was keen on the idea of a veggie burger. This place seems to be family-run, and the waitstaff knew most of the people in there, so it's nice that it's a little community spot. That said, I definitely got some looks in my Céline shirt, skirt, and Chanel glasses- the boy and I looked mildly out of place amongst the locals. Our waitress was nice but seemed to have trouble understanding us (I think she may have had trouble hearing)- I ordered a veggie barbecue burger and specified 'obviously, no bacon, either' and was then brought a beef burger (with no bacon at least), which we had to send back- and I heard her exclaim loudly 'She never said she wanted a veggie burger!', which made me feel embarrassed and mildly annoyed because I definitely had. We saw another couple send back their food as well because it was underdone. We ordered chips and salsa to start because we were really hungry, but the chips, while homemade, were badly burned and nearly inedible. The salsa also seemed homemade (and watery) but had good flavour. My companion's tuna sandwich was so dry he had trouble swallowing it, and my veggie burger, when it did arrive was pretty good- but nothing exceptional. The prices are really inexpensive, but the food quality pretty much matched the value. Overall, I feel bad giving this place two stars because it does seem to be family-run and community oriented (and I really appreciate the vegetarian options), but they definitely need to step up their game on the consistency of their food. Edited to add: Since another reviewer addressed it, I don't expect people in the mountains to be dressed 'fashionably', rather I was simply stating that I think perhaps because -I- was dressed for Aspen and not for a little mountain town we were treated a bit strangely as a result (and rather hilariously, Céline and Celine Dion are two entirely different entities! Ha).

Super happy with my breakfast here. Got the feast omelet (chicken, pesto, roasted red pepper) but with egg whites. They let me sub black beans for the potatoes and bread without pause. Enjoyed the bar, chatted with locals. Was busy on a Sunday so food wasn't super fast but it tasted great and they kept my coffee full. Next time I would like the black bean sweet potato bowl. Most of the stuff is standard diner fare. Total bill $12.

Our expectations were low, I mean, it's Buena Vista and Colorado high mountain town fare is hit & miss. Complicating matters, my wife is a vegetarianish foodie and not always the easiest person to feed. So when we rolled up to the Evergreen Cafe with their sign heralding words like "local produce" and "vegetarian friendly" we were a little skeptical, considering the miles frozen tundra we had just driven across. "Maybe piñon seeds?" I thought. Turns out they actually source meats, greens etc from the high country. My turkey reuben was fantastic! Her sweet potato black bean and spinach w/ in house balsamic bowl (the menu had a name for it that was about as succinct & catchy) was delicious as well. Evergreen Cafe is also apparently famous for their bread pudding. Really all you need to know is whiskey sauce.

This is a top rated restaurant for good reason...the food. Add a friendly staff and a down home style and they have a winner. Just had their French Dip sandwich with hand cut fries. Excellent.

Stopped here for lunch on our way through town. Had the turkey ruben which was delicious! The only thing I didn't like about this place was how the owner treated her help in front of customers, very rude and unprofessional. Definitely worth the stop just make sure to sit outside or out of ear shot from the antics.

Was really crowded when we showed up on a Monday morning around 10am. Very limited parking. No obvious check in point. Once we sat down we received pleasant service. I had the french toast which was a little bland but overall there was a large selection for vegetarians which is a plus. Based on the number of locals I would say it's one of the safer bets in Buena Vista.

So tasty! They really nailed wife's and my eggs. It seems like a small thing but means a LOT when head chef and owner re-makes a poached egg because she doesn't see fit to serve a broken yolk! Huevos Rancheros, Eggs Princeton, and a pancake... choice breakfast and great service. Also recommended as a good source for fun local knowledge during your visit.

Wow... This place is hopping and for good reason. The food, price and service was spectacular. I ordered the Eggs Benedict for breakfast. They tasted great and hit the spot. My grandmother had the gluten free French Toast. She also liked it. The service was friendly, fast and helpful (but not overly attentive). If you get there and there is a wait it is worth it. They seem to turn over tables pretty quickly because of the quick service.

I ate here for lunch and it was very busy. I decided to have the Cobb salad. It was very tasty and definitely filled me up but I wish they put more chicken in it. I wouldn't mind coming here again if I was in the area.

Loved it! They were great from the minute we walked in. They found us a cool table (not in the hot sun) and brought everything quickly. We were there around 11 as they switched from breakfast to lunch but we got breakfast. Everything was delicious - cinnamon bun, homemade bread for french toast, huevos rancheros that were heaping on the plate, well seasoned potatoes. I'd probably give it 4.5 stars if that were an option.

Great food, fast. Waiter was friendly. I think they have the best breakfast in Buena Vista. I haven't had Mother's so I'll have to try there next time. Been to the others and liked them but Evergreen is my fav. The omelette with green chili is the way to go!

I enjoyed going to the Evergreen Cafe for their daily lunch special. The deal has great value. At $5 you get a sandwich, fries, and a drink! The food tasted great and we savored both the sandwich and fries. We sat in the outdoor seating - a little loud since it is right near the town's highway. The service was friendly, a tad slow in taking our order and checking back in but friendly, none the less. Not a big deal since I could tell they were very busy for lunch. Update: service is consistently great!! Friendly, fast, efficient. Another reason why this is my favorite lunchtime spot in Buena Vista!

I'm feeling kind of 'meh' about this place. It's a cute vibe and the service was fine. My friend and I both ordered the $5 lunch special which is a great deal. It was burger day so he got the regular burger and I got the veggie burger. The special came with fries but I substituted mine for onion rings. The waiter told me there would be a small fee for the substitution. What he didn't tell me is that the fee was $4.95 - which doubled the price of my meal! That sat with me the wrong way. On the bright side those onion rings were amazing. And my friend enjoyed his burger and fries. My veggie burger wasn't that great. It looked thick and juicy but something was just off about the taste. Also the special came with a choice of one topping. I chose cheese, but what I got was a small pile of shredded cheese that didn't come anywhere close to covering the top of the burger. I wouldn't order it again. Overall it was kind of a 50% good 50% bad experience. Not sure that I would eat here again. Oh also, parking out front is really awkward. That lot could use some tinkering.

Great find off of main road serving delicious breakfast at great prices & what's better is that they are vegetarian friendly! We recommend one of the veggie Benedict plates & the vicksburg with green chile. Def not forgetting to mention Delish coffee! Super friendly staff & ask for Matt!

Had a nice lunch on their patio today. Bus boy was very pleasant, menu quite broad, and waitress personable and cheerful. The food tasted real. We had the turkey wrap and tuna melt. Fair sized servings. You don't leave stuffed but portions aren't small either. All in all a pleasant experience. Highly recommended.

Eh. It's okay... just okay. I wasn't impressed with my breakfast. About two thirds of my bacon was really fatty, where it was practically all white. It was hilarious that a cook would think that would be acceptable. Then the memory hit me: I dined here about four years earlier, and I remember getting super fatty bacon that time as well! On this most recent visit, I didn't feel like sending back the bacon like the I did the first time. Yes, the inside is kind of interesting. I guess if you like the nostalgia of an old diner, you may like the stools in the front. Also, a small seating area is to the side with artwork hanging on the walls. The employees are friendly enough and the prices ain't bad. Having said all that, when I'm in town, I go to Jan's for that hearty greasy-spoon type of breakfast. That remains my favorite breakfast place in Buena Vista.

Hands down my favorite breakfast place in town!! The Early Bird special can't be beat for value and good food. Locally roasted coffee, seasonal specials, and all my favorites. The burgers are hard to beat also.

Passing through Buena Vista on the way from Avon to ski at Monarch and needed some nourishment to sustain us for the upcoming powder day. Sat down around 8 am and found that we were able to take advantage of the daily breakfast specials. Of our party of 4, we had one huevos rancheros (looked delicious and a lot of food), one 3 egg omelette with hash browns (also looked great) and a couple of the 2 eggs any style with bacon and a pancake. The bacon was delicious and crispy, the eggs over medium were perfectly cooked and the pancake was HUGE and tasty. $4.95 per dish, an excellent value. The service was supreme and the woman that helped us was happy to chat and give us pointers on where to find a good beer/dinner in town after skiing. We will be back.

Two hungover days in a row my friends and I hit up this teeny weeny cafe and it's pretty fantastic. The prices are fair and they have vegetarian green chile and vegetarian biscuits and gravy--a rarity. The second time we were there our ticket got misplaced so it took a long time to get our food, but our waitress took 30% off our ticket, so we were fine with it. The "Eggs Vicksburg" is deeeeelicious with veggie green chile!

My family and I spend time in BV doing many things. We've just begun trying the local restaurants and recently had breakfast here. I would say they were under staffed. The food was good but painstakingly slow. We stopped in on a Saturday morning before 7 AM. I am just guessing but the kitchen must have a very small grill and the cook makes each dish one at a time. Nonetheless, we did enjoy the food. If they weren't full and if more staff could be added, this place would be really good.

Cute little place ... we loved eating at the breakfast bar, and went twice in three days. Good, solid breakfast fare (don't get too crazy -- it is just Buena Vista after all) and VERY polite waitresses. We'll definitely be back!

Ate lunch and a couple of breakfasts at this diner in BV. Extensive menu, nice people, great food. Counter service and tables. Most people are willing to start a conversation if you desire. They keep your coffee cup full. I loved the Eggs Vicksburg. Good green chili.

It says Cafe, but I think Diner is more like it. It is a little hole in the wall place. Set up like a diner, not much on seating and VERY little parking. But, when in Buena Vista, it is my favorite breakfast place. My husband like's the Rooster's Crow better. It does present itself as cleaner. The first morning I got the blueberry wheat pancake and eggs and ham. Eggs over medium, PERFECTO!!!! Runny yellow and done white, and no lace, just a beautiful presentation for an egg. However, the Blueberry wheat pancake won my heart over. Too full to finish, very disappointed in myself I must say. Now for you naturalist, on their website it is posted. Voted Best Breakfast! We are proud to be serving local ingredients, delicious all natural breads, using local seasonal produce All natural hormone and antibiotic free meats, premium oil-non hydrogenated, tff, locally roasted organic coffee. So, if the above is a concern for you, this is something to consider. We have only ever done breakfast, so this is the only meal I can recommend. But you will be glad you went. Oh, and yes watch the lock on the men's bathroom. Oops! I just wonder if anyone has told them or you men don't mind being exhibitionist's. Yes, and the coffee is good. I like sitting out at the little two seat metal tables. You get a lot of traffic, but on a cool, beautiful morning with great coffee, who cares.

This place is tops. Labor day 10AM counter seats available we are next no waiting. Amazing service and food. Bazooka bang for your buck. They make their own breads and many other things. I got zucchini bread and french toast to go after gorging on other items they came in handy when we hit traffic and that was the best zucchini bread I have ever had. It was still moist after a few hours in my black car...

One of my favorite restaurants in the entire world. 3 Things that make it so: 1. Morning specials: arrive before 8 am and they have ridiculously affordable custom homemade omelet special (3 eggs, 2 ingredients), and it's only like $4. It's worth it. Get up - just come in your p.j.'s. 2. Kind, kind, kind staff: The people are incredible, all of them. 3. The view: It's a small mountain town, and the Evergreen has large windows on the east-facing window on the Buffalo Peaks. It's seriously delicious, though, folks. Go and try it next time you're in Buena Vista.

The Evergreen Cafe on the main drag in Buena Vista boasts of it's vegetarian selections and its use of local, fresh ingredients on a sign out front. My wife and I figured we'd give it a shot, and we were not disappointed. I had a sweet potato and black bean burrito that was, simply put, the best burrito I've ever had in my life. My wife was similarly pleased with her entree. The service was fast and friendly, the food was excellent, the interior clean and light, and the check, when it came, was quite reasonable. The two of us had the best lunch we've had in a while for under $20. If you are in Buena Vista, stop by for breakfast or lunch. You won't be disappointed!

This run-down diner is definitely a No-Go. As other Yelpers mentioned, this place really isn't a cafe. It's loud (bad acoustics, including an entire corner of a back room covered in ceramic tile, which bounces off noise a rubber ball off a gym floor), and it's greasy--not the good kind of greasy; I know my grease--but things that shouldn't been greasy were, like the bread and the salad. The olive oil on my salad was rancid, and the iced tea had a strange, dirt-like flavor. The lock on the women's restroom was broken (interesting that another Yelper mentioned this in a review several days ago--I should have listened!), so I used the men's room, which had a broken urinal, no t.p., and had paper towels all over the floor. Gross. There's also a weird patch on the wall near the restroom-about the size of a telephone book-like someone tried to fix the wall, but then gave up. The owners need to take heed and not let this place fall into chaos and disrepair. To the owners: Stop relying on one-time mountain/ski tourists to make a buck! I seriously doubt locals eat here, unless locals get some kind of special treatment tourists don't. The bottom line--avoid this diner. I recommend checking out Yelp for other locations in Buena Vista.

Three words: EARLY BIRD SPECIAL!!! get there early and get a massive plate of food for $4!!! That and the staff is generally very nice, even when its a bunch of kids who look like they are in middle school. It is a great way to get a hearty breakfast and relax- or sit at the counter and make small talk with the locals.

Being at this restaurant was the most disgusting experience of my life!! My fiancee and I stopped to eat on our way through town, thinking a small town diner was the perfect spot. Unfortunately, I couldn't finish my meal without wanting to throw up because of what I saw! It was a really hot day, so apparently the ice was melting and needed to be drained. The boy scooping ice (he couldn't have been more than 15 years old, heard someone call him Matthew) would scoop the ice into a cup, then turn the cup over with his HAND covering the opening, and drain the water out, back into the ice reservoir. He never once washed his hands before he did that, and we watched him do it 3 feet away from us about 12 times!! Then the one time he decided to use the actual ice scooper, he dropped it on the floor, and immediately picked it up and used it without cleaning it off!! I couldn't believe what I was seeing! This kid would go and clear tables, handle money, and use those nasty dirty hands to touch the cup where other people would then be putting their mouths. SICK!!! Besides all that, our food didn't come till after everyone who was seated AFTER us got their food, and there was no lock on the men's bathroom, so my fiancee was walked in on. Needless to say, we will NEVER go in there again, nor will we ever recommend that place to our WORST ENEMY!

This diner is kind of cute but that's where the love story ends. Our group was was of the only tables in the restaurant, but more people came in after us. Two of those tables were served their meals before us. I ordered the Belgian Waffles, they were definitely freezer burned and tough. I told the waitress and she offered to get me something else, but everyone was already finished eating. I also had some of my boyfriend's biscuits and gravy, which he didn't like very much. I thought they were a smidge better than my waffles though. He also had a pancake which I believe had also been frozen and then reheated in a microwave. Ick! Our friends had egg dishes which they did not say were bad. So I figure if you get stuck eating here something with eggs might be ok. The coffee wasnt bad, but it certainly wasnt refilled in a timely manner. Overall I'd say pass this place by for something else in town.

I visit Buena Vista every two years. Everytime I visit I see new unique exciting improvements. This year I noticed the tables are painted with different designs that put a smile on your face. The atmosphere makes you feel as though you're at home. The staff is friendly and timely with their service. The food is awesome and makes you start your day in the Rockies on the right foot. I love the Evergreen Cafe and hope that everyone in Buena or that visits Buena supports this fine establishment. We need more cafes like the Evergreen.

Small, quaint, and right off the main highway. It's been a few years since I've eaten here as I've missed our annual colorado vacation the past few years. I was really looking forward to the sweet potato and black bean breakfast bowl and I wasn't dissapointed! It was still on the menu and as delicious as I remembered. Throw and egg on top and I'm in heaven! The staff is busy but very attentive. I was never left waiting and my drink was always full. I was so hungry that I ordered a second plate of food and had it in a split second. If you're looking for a quick breakfast, grab a seat at the bar. The locals will chat with you and love to hear that you're visiting. If you're looking for a little more relaxed breakfast, grab a table. Tip: $4.95 breakfast from a limited menu from 6:30-8:30. Well worth it if you're looking for a slightly smaller, traditional breakfast.

What a great little place. We stopped by on a Tuesday afternoon and were greeted right away. Sat on the sunny patio and ordered drinks. The iced tea was fresh even late in the day. I finally decided on the salmon sandwich, with gluten free bread. Without asking the waitress also named off all the gluten free sides and when I decided on a salad wrote to take off the croutons. SO ATTENTIVE! The miso dressing is awesome, and so is the salmon sandwich the chipotle mayo was a little extra hot, AND the GF bread is really good too. The portions are a little small but I didn't leave feeling hungry, just perfectly satisfied. I could see why they were busy and still had people stopping by even after they were closed. I'm willing to bet if they stayed open till 3, instead of 2....no one would complain!

I love visiting the cafe on the way home from Buena Vista. It's located on the other side of town away from the bustle and offers the best breakfast in town. For under $10, you can get a fully-loaded breakfast to die for. The ham in particular is always amazing here as a side, along with the egg sandwich and home fries.

This is your quintessential diner experience. To further that, we ended up sitting at the bar to avoid the long wait. We went with the standard American breakfast and it was pretty much what you'd expect. I was extremely happy with how attentive everyone was and how quickly they move the tables. Definitely worth the experience and the food!

Good, not delicious. It's really 2.5 stars, but gets a bump up because it is inexpensibe.

I used to eat here often back in the 90's when I was a raft guide. Good old Evergreen Cafe. Friendly vibe small town goodness. Biscuits and gravy went down well.

Perfect place to stop for breakfast! I ordered the Vicksburg scramble with green chili. They were very accommodating with my daughter's gluten-free needs. Great service. This pace is quaint and a must!

Fast, friendly, great food. This place had an awesome breakfast! Did I mention it was quick? Obviously a well ran place. Gf and i's silverware was dirty but shit happens. Bottom line worth a stop and I'll be back next time in BV

Five stars for exquisite food, with every dietary exception accounted for. Five stars for service, with friendly, prompt service and a homey feel. Sit out on the patio for a true Buena Vista view while you eat! We came here after a night of camping at Cottonwood Lake and soaking at Cottonwood hot springs. A perfect one-night trip up from Denver.

This place is a-ok as the three stars indicate. The service is quick, there's counter as well as table seating. The waitress was efficient and checked on us a couple times. They had a variety of Benedict's and I tried the California one with the tomato and avocado. It was good, I wish the whites would have been cooked thru, they were too runny for my taste. Hubby and MIL both enjoyed their dishes. I'm glad we stopped to support this local business

This place was AWFUL. I picked it because of the great reviews, but our experience was AWFUL. Had 3 adults and 3 kids. All 3 adults had eggs with runny whites despite specifically requesting no runny whites (ordered over medium or hard). 2 of us sent our eggs back, 1 order came back with runny whites again (on poached eggs). The cook went to the restroom with his apron on...he untied it and flung it to the side and went right in...YUCK. They missed one order of pancakes for the kids...so 2 kids got food and 1 had to wait...if you have kids, you know how much that sucks. I felt queasy for about 2 hours after eating here. Would NOT recommend to anyone.

Average breakfast, fun local place. I had the huevos rancheros, it was good. The potatoes are the frozen squares you buy and heat up. The cinnamon rolls are not made by them either. But enough with the negatives. Part of going to a new place when you travel is experiencing the local places. There is nothing wrong with the breakfast, and the atmosphere is homey. Coffee is good. I would go back and try a few more dishes to figure out what I like the best.

My family and I come back to this restaurant every time we are in Buena Vista: the food is delicious and the portions are human-sized. More importantly, let me explain the real reason I am loyal to Evergreen Cafe: I watched the owner tell off a customer one time, and it was spectacular. Texans have a special reputation in Colorado, and the stereotype is as wrong as it is right: we arrived to eat at the same moment two loud and proud, bedazzled and bejeweled Lone Star legends stepped out of their gold Hummer. Understated, right? Hell, people can wear as many rhinestones as they want and I don't care, but when you start insulting your server (who is busting her ass for your table, in the middle of the lunch rush), I remember details. The woman wanted a particular type of Chai - maybe Oregon, which nobody uses here, except at Starbucks. Evergreen Cafe didn't have it, they had another brand, so that was a good excuse as any for this lady to ask her server to check again, ask her why they didn't have it, loudly explain and snort "what sort of hillbilly place was this?" And generally act like a complete asshat. The poor server brought her out the house chai to taste and the woman seemed to enjoy it. At the end of the meal, in which this woman had an array of other requests and generally, suffered from some sort of entitlement disease, she demanded that the chai be taken off the bill since it wasn't the kind she wanted. At this point, I don't know how the server was not in tears. In fact, I think it's what this lady wanted. And let me mention, this young woman was endlessly kind and patient with these people through this entire ordeal. The bill the paid, and then an older woman came out to talk with the table. She pointed at the tip on the bill and loudly, so we could all watch the show, asked why they had tipped their server 28 cents. The man in the couple was completely dumbfounded and stuttering. The owner asked them, did your server try to fulfill your many requests? Didn't she do an excellent job during an incredibly busy lunch? Was she not kind and considerate in the face of total attitude and lack of manners? It was so satisfying to watch this. The Texas woman, completely unfazed, started in: I need the number of the owner of this place! And the older woman replied,"Lady, I AM the owner. And you are not welcome back."

Man! You always take a risk when you are from out of town...but we were so pleased with The Evergreen Cafe. I had the Turkey Reuben with the sweet potato salad & my husband had the Wrap with onion rings. Delicious!!! You will not be disappointed. Great artsy atmosphere and kind people who work here.

Great little cafe, great sandwiches (BLT, grilled cheese) and chicken fingers with friendly service!

Went in the early afternoon post-hike...breakfast menu is over around 11:30am just fyi. The good: One member of our group had the fruit and chicken salad. Looked good. Another had the fish and chips. They commented on how good the fish was. Salmon sandwich and burger also ok. So why the two stars? Our waitress was truly awful. Plus sloppy appearance. Very slow service, but rushed (inexplicably) with the check without asking if we would like a to-go box or anything for coffee or dessert. Waited and waited, and did not come back to pick up payment. We had to hunt down another one of the wait staff. Leaving the restaurant, our waitress is seen outside in deep conversation with other patrons. I'm sure there are other places in town with better service. On an aside, the young lad refilling our water was very nice and on the spot when we needed anything. Maybe he should be recruited to take orders from customers instead?
